PRESIDENTS’ DAY

It’s President’s Day today. Although it originally was a day of celebration on the birthday of George Washington, it has morphed into a commemoration of all presidents of this country, especially those in the past who set the stage for what our country is today.

It is oftentimes claimed that the founding fathers built this country on Christian principles. The Declaration of Independence mentions the Creator, after all, and our currency even carries the moniker: “In God We Trust.” Although many of those early leaders weren’t actually Christians, the phrase etched into our coins still holds true for those who believe in Jesus today. In fact, it’s taken right out of Psalm 56: “In God I trust. I will not be afraid.”

As we look back on the history of this country and are reminded about the victories and the defeats, the achievements and the embarrassments, the good, the bad, and the ugly, we can confidently say as Christians, “In God I trust. I will not be afraid.” No matter who the president is or has been, no matter what world power is in control at the time, no matter what the economy looks like on any given day, our God is in charge. And he will make sure that everything works out according to his plan for us.

“In God I trust. I will not be afraid!”
